Wesco: A Legacy of Ingenuity

Instructional Design | Corporate Onboarding & Brand Storytelling

The Challenge

With a century-long history, Wesco faced the challenge of "onboarding fatigue." New employees needed to grasp the company’s evolution from a Westinghouse division to a global supply chain leader without being overwhelmed by a dry, chronological timeline. The goal was to create a narrative-driven experience that builds cultural alignment and centers on the core value of "ingenuity."

The Instructional Strategy: Narrative Learning

I utilized Story-Based Learning to transform 100 years of data into a compelling legacy narrative. By identifying "Ingenuity" as the central theme, I connected historical electrical distribution to modern-day supply chain technology.

Key Design Elements:

  • Emotional Anchoring: Highlighting resilience through major historical events to create a personal connection for the learner.

  • Visual Metaphors: Contrasting archival footage with modern logistics to visually demonstrate continuous innovation.

  • Chronological Scaffolding: Breaking a century of growth into distinct eras to improve information retention and recall.
